Deceit of Dice

Chapter I – The letters
Seven years
after the fight with Cell, peace was bliss. It had been an average day for
Gohan; he had just got home from his day at school. Although he wished it was a
little closer so that he wouldn’t have to go such a far distance. He hopped off
of Kinto’un, landing with perfect form, heading for the front door of his
house. Just as he was about to take another step, Goten slammed the door open
and dashed to his older brother.
With a
great big smile Gohan kneeled down to his brother’s height, giving him a hug,
“What’s up?”
“You got a
letter today!” He said as he flung the envelope into Gohan’s face.
Gohan was
very surprised! It wasn’t very common to get a letter. Not only did he not know
very many people, but it was hard to get when you lived in the middle of
nowhere. But no matter, he was glad to have received one. He took the envelope
from Goten’s hand and examined it. It didn’t have a
postage stamp. That would mean the person would to have to hand deliver it. It
also, didn’t have a return address.
Goten
jumped on his older brother with glee, “And you know what? Mom got one too! And
so did I!”
That’s
weird, Gohan thought to himself. “Hey why don’t we get inside where Mom, will
be making us dinner?”
“Okay!”
As they
headed toward the house, there was Chichi leaning against the door frame. “Hey
Mom, I heard you got a letter too.”
Chichi
smiled, “Yes, and we’re all going to read them after dinner.”
Goten
frowned, “Can’t we just open them now?”
“No, I want
everyone to eat first then we can. I don’t know, maybe it can be come family
thing, we might have even won something! Oh I’m just as curious as you are!”
And so they
began to eat dinner. The plates were staked high to the sky as the two demi-Saiyajins ate. Granted, Gohan never had that much of
an appetite compared to his father of little brother, funny how Goten ended up
being exactly like Gokuu. Chichi had long finished
her meal and was starting to wash the leaning tower of dishes. Once they had
all finished their supper. The small family gathered ‘round in the living room,
with their letters.
Gohan began
the count down, “Okay, one… two… three!”
Goten took
the side of the envelope and ripped it with his teeth. Gohan slipped his finger
into the small opening in the side of the crease and maneuvered it to tear at
the fold. Chichi did the same, but used a steak knife, instead. Now that the
letters were out in the open they read them. All of their faces changed from
happy joyful expressions to confused looks.
Each letter
was different. They were all in different penmanship, some more cognizant than
others. They all had riddles on them. Each person exchanged letters, looking
each one over. The riddles were different too, but they all had something in
common; they were all had the same closing; they were numbered in a sequence,
and were all disturbingly written in blood. They all decided to read them out
aloud.
Gohan read
his letter first, since his letter was labeled number one:
“Seven years gone by
Seven days I will arrive
Know me then is to know me not
Know me now, you will soon see
As one day goes by
One friend dies
As night goes by
A new note appears
You have seven days to guess
You’ll get seven nights of clues
Guess who I am
Before it’s too late…”
Then Chichi
read hers:
“From Gohan’s letter you will read
The rules of the game that will be
This is your first clue
On whom I am to be
Black, blue
Red, yellow, orange
Your youngest will be the first
The first victim on my list
Guess who I am
Before it’s too late…”
Then the
last letter was read by Goten, who was now being held in the protective arms of
his mother:
“You are the smallest
And most confused
Don’t worry so much
You have all this night
You never knew me
But your brother did
Guess who I am
Before it’s too late…”
The family
of three then stared at the three notes, who could be after them? Chichi had an
idea, “Well since this psycho obviously knows where we live, I like it would be
best to head over to Bulma’s house. So then we’ll at
least have a little protection.” Then next thing they knew, Chichi let go of
Goten and dialed up Bulma on the phone. She explained
what was going on.
Goten
looked up at Gohan with big watering eyes, “Onii-chan,
I don’t wanna die…”
Gohan
took his little brother into a hug, “Don’t worry, everything’s going to be
okay. As long as I’m around, and all our other friends, no harm will be coming
to an inch of you,” Gohan said in a soft, soothing voice.
“I’m still
scared.”
“I know. It’s
going to be alright.”
Chichi hung
up the phone, “Well it’s settled, we’re going to stay
the next seven nights at Capsule Corp. So I want you two to pack up clothes and
a few personal things as fast as you can. Gohan-chan,
for once I want you to fly us there, I want to get there as fast as we can!”
Gohan
released Goten and scooted him forward. Goten took the hint and ran up stairs
to their bedroom. Gohan stalled, he gazed back at the letter then took off to
his room. Gohan packed clothes and some school supplies (even thought they were
in a crisis, it doesn’t mean he was exempt from studying). Gohan could only
laugh a little when he saw Goten trying to pack as many toys as he could into
his backpack.
“Um, Goten,
maybe we should leave those. Trunks has enough toys
for the both of you to share.”
“Oh okay…”
Goten pouted.
As soon as
they were done, they raced down the stairs. Gohan grabbed a hold of his mother
and brother, then took to the sky. Although he could have
gone faster, he didn’t want to freak his mom out anymore than she was now. In
about twenty to thirty minutes they safely landed in the font yard of Capsule
Corp. The door opened and there was Bulma running out
to see Chichi.
Chichi
greeted her friend, “Sorry to drop in on you like this.”
“Oh it’s
alright, now we already have rooms picked out. I called everyone over too. We
need to talk about this whole ordeal and get some security knocked up a notch.”
Bulma then had some small robots come out and take
their luggage.
As they
walked inside Goten stared at Gohan, “Onii-chan, what
happens is we don’t solve the clues.”
“I don’t
know, I just don’t know…”
*******
Well I hope
you enjoyed that. If you think I should continue then review,
and I’ll see what I can do. I put a lot of thought into those letters. Oh I
wonder who could be the psycho? I guess you’ll have to
wait and see! Well hopefully, I’ll see you later.
